HERNDON, Va., Aug. 20, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been awarded a contract valued at approximately $100 million to continue providing electronic benefit transfer (EBT) services to the State of Illinois Department of Human Services. Northrop Grumman's Information Technology (IT) sector has been the incumbent EBT service provider to the state since July 2001.
The 10-year contract (five years plus five one-year options) will begin in October 2003 when the current contract expires.
Northrop Grumman IT will provide data processing and software maintenance, as well as overall coordination and management of EBT services for the State of Illinois' food stamp program and several cash assistance programs. The current Northrop Grumman IT system processes four million transactions monthly. EBT benefits are accessed by benefits recipients through debit card technology utilized at point-of-sale locations throughout the state.
"We are delighted that the State of Ilinois has selected us to continue providing EBT services, demonstrating its continued confidence in our performance," said Cheryl Janey, vice president, State and Local, Northrop Grumman IT. "We will apply expertise and program knowledge gained from our current Illinois EBT program and EBT programs with other states, and we are confident that we can continue to provide exceptional service to the Department of Human Services."
"Northrop Grumman IT has demonstrated a commitment to the successful operation of our EBT program," said Linda Renee Baker, Secretary, Illinois Department of Human Services.
