WASHINGTON, Nov. 18, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) today announced that Frank L. Frisbie has been awarded the Glen A. Gilbert Memorial Award by the Air Traffic Control Association (ATCA). Frisbie was selected for this award by the ATCA Board of Directors for his long-standing contributions to the air traffic control and civil aviation communities.
Frisbie is currently vice president, Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Programs, Government Solutions, Northrop Grumman Information Technology (IT), where he is responsible for Northrop Grumman's programs with the FAA and the civil aviation community.
In 1958, Frisbie joined the FAA where he held a variety of positions. In his last two posts, he was directly responsible for research, development, system engineering, acquisition, deployment and maintenance of all 20,000 air traffic control facilities in the United States. He successfully managed a $12 billion national program aimed at revitalizing the U.S. air traffic control infrastructure, the benefits of which are still being realized today.
"The Glen A. Gilbert Memorial Award is the highest individual award given in the air traffic control industry," said Jim Perriello, president, Government Solutions, Northrop Grumman IT. "Through his exceptional contributions to the FAA and civil aviation industry, Frank Frisbie is to be commended for this outstanding achievement."
Beginning in 1986, the annual Glen A. Gilbert Memorial Award has been dedicated to the memory of one of the recognized "Fathers of Air Traffic Control" and honors the lifelong achievements of an individual in the field of aviation with special emphasis in the field of air traffic control. The award trophy, inscribed with the names of recipients, is on permanent display at the Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum in Washington, D.C.
"I am distinctly honored to accept this prestigious award on behalf of the civil aviation industry, which I have had the privilege to serve for more than 20 years," said Frisbie, who accepted the award Nov. 7 at the Glen A. Gilbert Memorial Award Banquet in Washington, D.C.
