GARDEN CITY, N.Y., March 7, 2013 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Bob Klein, vice president of engineering and global product development for the company's Military Aircraft Systems division, was inducted into the Long Island Technology Hall of Fame (LITHF) March 6 at the annual LITHF induction event.

The organization recognizes, honors and preserves the accomplishments of historical figures or current leaders in science or technology who have impacted Long Island.

"Bob has been an exceptional leader in science and technology on Long Island," said Yacov Shamash, LITHF chairman and vice president of economic development and dean of the College of Engineering and Applied Sciences at the State University of New York at Stony Brook. "He has made outstanding contributions to the field of aerospace engineering and expanding science, technology, engineering and mathematics [STEM] efforts on Long Island."

Klein joined the company in 1974 under a Grumman Scholarship, and his first assignment was on the F-14 Tomcat assembly line, a program where he eventually became chief engineer. Klein joins other prominent company inductees to LITHF including Leroy Grumman, Tom Kelly, Joseph Gavin and Grant Hedrick.

In his current role Klein leads engineers and technologists working on a number of the company's most well-known programs including the B-2 Spirit, E-2D Advanced Hawkeye, E-8C Joint STARS, EA-18G Growler, F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, F-35 Lightning II Joint Strike Fighter, Long Endurance Multi-Intelligence Vehicle and Next Generation Jammer.

He previously led the company's Maritime and Tactical Systems business area. Prior to that, he has served as chief engineer for the F-14 Tomcat program, primary flight control system lead for the X-29 Forward Swept Wing Demonstrator and held key roles on the U.S. Marine Corps LCAC hovercraft design and several other advanced technology programs.

Klein was recognized with the Hammer Award from the vice president of the United States, the Program Management Award from the U.S. secretary of defense and the Top Integrated Product Team Award from the undersecretary of defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics.

He earned a Bachelor of Science degree in aerospace engineering from Princeton University and a Master of Science degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology.
