BALTIMORE, March 31, 2011 -- What was once the condemned shell of a house is today the newly renovated home of Rosetta Anderson and her family, thanks to a community partnership between Sandtown Habitat for Humanity and Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC).

"We have a great team of employees at Northrop Grumman," said Marconi. "Not only do they spend their time at work creating innovative technologies to protect our service men and women, but they also give back willingly to our communities.

"We're proud to partner with such an organization, as Sandtown Habitat for Humanity and help transform houses into homes," she told the crowd gathered for the ribbon cutting and community picnic afterward. "We wish the family a lifetime of happiness in their new home."

Under the guidance of Sandtown Habitat for Humanity representatives, Northrop Grumman employee volunteers, families and friends worked on a variety of construction activities including wood framing, roofing, drywall, flooring and painting, among other tasks.

This is the 286 th house Sandtown Habitat for Humanity has turned over to new homeowners.

"With every home we're building here in Sandtown, we're ending poverty," said LaVerne Stokes, executive director of Sandtown Habitat for Humanity.

New homeowner Rosetta Anderson – who fulfilled more than 300 hours of sweat equity to her new home over the past year -- offered a tearful thank you. "This is a wonderful program that helps families who are not able to do it by themselves," she said. "I'm very excited and very blessed. I want to thank all of the volunteers – every last one of you who came here every week to help us build a home."

Sandtown Habitat for Humanity is a nonprofit Christian housing organization in the Sandtown-Winchester neighborhood of West Baltimore with the purpose of rebuilding the vacant housing in Sandtown , increasing homeownership and improving the health of the community.
