APOPKA, Fla., Feb. 6, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) and University of Central Florida, College of Engineering and Computer Science (CECS), have partnered to provide engineering education programs to Central Florida pre-college students. As part of this partnership, Gregory Williams, general manager of the company's Laser Systems business unit, located in Apopka, presented Bruce Furino, director of the UCF - CECS Office of Educational Partnerships, a check for $2,500.

The company's contribution will be used to support Engineering Futures Forum, an engineering education event that brings professional engineers to high schools in Central Florida to help inform students about the field of engineering, engineering careers and engineering degree programs available at UCF. In 2006, Northrop Grumman teamed with UCF to bring the forum to middle schools students and had over 500 students participate.

"Northrop Grumman has a continuing need for outstanding engineers," said Williams. "Helping to inform bright, young students about the field of engineering will not only provide them with more options to consider, but it may also eventually help us when we are looking to hire bright, young engineering graduates."

The funds will also be used to support the 2007 Florida Engineering Education Conference for pre-college educators and engineers, scheduled to be held on May 5 at the Student Union on the UCF campus. Northrop Grumman engineers will present and provide a breakout session specifically designed to accommodate women engineers and teachers.

"Your engineers have done a fantastic job in relating what they do to young pre-college students, and we have a program that has the potential to reach many more of these students. We are most grateful for your support and look forward to working with Northrop Grumman," said Furino.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is a $30 billion global defense and technology company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government and commercial customers worldwide.
