BETHPAGE, N.Y., Sept. 19, 2011 -- In honor of the nation's year-long Centennial of Naval Aviation celebrations and the men and women who serve in the armed services, Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) employees and their families joined with the United Service Organizations (USO) to conduct an Operation USO Care Package stuffing party—completing 10,093 packages for deployed U.S. troops in just four hours.

More than 130 volunteers banded together in assembly line fashion at the American Air Power Museum in Farmingdale, N.Y., to place a variety of items including prepaid phone cards, snacks, playing cards, reading material, shampoo, conditioner, sun block, hand sanitizer, toothpaste and toothbrushes, into thousands of backpacks. They were joined by the USO Liberty Bells, a talented show troupe comprised of professional performers, who sang a variety of patriotic songs to inspire and energize the hard-working team. This event marked the 22 nd stuffing party that the USO and Northrop Grumman have completed since the partnership was formed in 2004.

"We're honored to support the mission of the USO. Operation USO Care Package is one more way for us to demonstrate our daily commitment to our troops. There is nothing more important than supporting our men and women who serve our country and their families," said Patricia McMahon, vice president and general manager, Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems Battle Management and Engagement Systems division. "I'd also like to thank the American Air Power Museum for their support in allowing us to hold our event at their great museum."

To show Northrop Grumman's continuing commitment to the USO locally, McMahon and employees, some who are former service members, also presented a check for $24,000 to Jessica Herman, chief development officer, USO of Metropolitan New York. These funds were specifically raised by employees who work at the company's division headquarters in Bethpage and have been used to fund a variety of local programs including a breakfast reception for 1,500 Sailors and Marines aboard the USS Iwo Jima during NYC Fleet Week 2011.

"We are extremely grateful for Northrop Grumman's willingness and the willingness of their employees to generously support the USO and the brave men and women we serve," said Herman.

Since 2009, division employees have also raised more than $100,000 to support several USO Centers, including those at Naval Air Station Mayport in Jacksonville, Fla., and the USO of Metropolitan New York. Employees across Northrop Grumman's Aerospace Systems sector have raised $249,000 so far this year for the USO.

"It's moments like these when I feel especially proud to be an American—seeing the selfless service that these Northrop Grumman volunteers and their family members demonstrated today and throughout the year. The USO Care Packages are a huge morale boost to every soldier, sailor, airman and Marine who receives one. It brings a little sense of home to where ever our troops may be deployed in the world," said Cmdr. Matthew Mullins, U.S. Navy, director of the Defense Contract Management Agency-Bethpage.

The USO is a private, nonprofit organization whose mission is to support the troops by providing morale, welfare and recreation-type services to our men and women in uniform. The original intent of Congress for the USO, established in 1941, is to represent the American people by extending a touch of home to the military. The USO currently operates in more than 160 locations worldwide.

The USO recently celebrated the stuffing of its 2,000,000 th care package in December 2010. On average, Operation USO Care Package distributes anywhere from 250,000 to 300,000 care packages each year.

Since 2010, Northrop Grumman has been the corporate sponsor for the USO Military Bowl presented by Northrop Grumman. This year's game is expected to feature the U.S. Naval Academy against an Atlantic Coast Conference team and will be held on Dec. 28, 2011, at 4:30 p.m. ET at RFK Stadium in Washington, D.C. The Military Bowl seeks to generate broad support for the USO, positively impact the regional economy, and honor the U.S. military and their families.
