NEWPORT NEWS, Va., AVONDALE, La. and PASCAGOULA, Miss., Dec. 21, 2010 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Shipbuilding sector, the United Steelworkers, the International Association of Fire Fighters, and the International Union, Security, Police, Fire Professionals of America joined together for the annual holiday food drive. Shipbuilders from Virginia and the Gulf Coast donated over 33,000 pounds of non-perishable food items and made monetary contributions totaling over $13,500. All donations will go to local food banks to benefit families in need.
"This year's food drive was more successful than any other because of the efforts of our employees," said Chavis Harris, director of equal employment opportunity, diversity and community relations for Northrop Grumman Shipbuilding. "Our goal is to have continued success each year by helping more families in need. We are shipbuilders, not only building ships but building communities."
The food drive was held Nov. 22 through Dec. 10. Collection boxes were placed inside designated buildings, warehouses, piers, docks and trailers. Monetary donations were accepted for the purchase of perishable food items such as meat, dairy, fruits and vegetables.
