ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., June 29, 2011 -- As part of its seventh annual Engineering Scholars program, Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has announced the two graduating students in the greater Rolling Meadows community who will be awarded $10,000 college scholarships â payable in $2,500 installments over four years.
Kevin Cascino from Saint Viator High School and Bryan Filippelli from Rolling Meadows High School both received the merit-based scholarship for their excellent academic achievement and community involvement. This fall Cascino will attend the University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana and Filippelli will attend Purdue University in West Lafayette, Ind.
"Northrop Grumman recognizes the United States' need for engineering talent both today and in the future," said Jeff Palombo, sector vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman's Land and Self Protection Systems Division. "Through this scholarship program, we are addressing that need while supporting two outstanding local students as they pursue degrees in engineering."
The Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars program encourages promising high school seniors interested in math and science to consider the field of engineering. To be eligible, scholarship applicants must be residents of Rolling Meadows, Palatine or Arlington Heights and be seniors graduating in the spring of 2011 from a local public or accredited private high school. Candidates must plan to attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student in an approved engineering program. Applicants must also meet minimum SAT and grade point average requirements.
