EL SEGUNDO, Calif., Jan. 11, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has appointed George Vardoulakis vice president of tactical systems for F/A-18 programs for the company's Integrated Systems sector.

In this position, Vardoulakis will manage all aspects of Northrop Grumman's work on the F/A-18 program, in addition to supporting the company's legacy F-5 and T-38 aircraft programs. Prior to this assignment, Vardoulakis was the program director for the company's F/A-18E/F Super Hornet program and deputy for its F/A-18, F-5 / T-38 programs.

Northrop Grumman has a principal role in the design and production of the F/A-18 Super Hornet, the U.S. Navy's frontline carrier-based strike fighter. As principal subcontractor to The Boeing Company on all models of the F/A-18, the company produces the aft and center fuselage sections and vertical tails and integrates associated subsystems at its facility in El Segundo, Calif. The program accounts for about 1,500 jobs at Northrop Grumman and supplier companies in Southern California.

During his career at Northrop Grumman, which spans more than 20 years, Vardoulakis has held numerous positions of increasing responsibility. These jobs have included flight line and delivery manager for the B-2 program; manager of B-2 low observable technologies implementation; director of Lean implementation for military programs for the sector's former Air Combat Systems organization; and director of operations and quality for Integrated Systems' unmanned systems market segment.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Vardoulakis earned a bachelor's degree from Southern Illinois University in industrial technology. He is also a graduate of the Northrop Grumman Advanced Program Management course.
