ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Aug. 6, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) today announced the winners of its third-annual Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars program, which awards two $10,000 college scholarships to local area high-school students interested in pursuing a career in engineering.

Alexander Gumz, a graduate of William Fremd High School in Palatine, and Coralie Jackman, a graduate of Palatine High School in Palatine, each received merit-based scholarships for their exceptional academic achievements and community involvement. They received the scholarships at an awards reception hosted at Northrop Grumman's Defensive Systems Division headquarters facility in Rolling Meadows on July 18. This fall, Gumz will be attending Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology in Terre Haute, Ind., while Jackman will continue her education at University of Illinois in Champaign-Urbana.

"This scholarship program enables us to aid promising young adults interested in engineering careers achieve their goals."

To be eligible for the Engineering Scholars Program, applicants had to be a resident of Rolling Meadows and a graduating senior in the spring of 2007 from a public or accredited private high school with a minimum GPA of 3.5 (grades 9-12). Candidates must attend an accredited college or university as a full-time student in an approved engineering program. The funds may be used for tuition, books, lodging and meals.
