ROLLING MEADOWS, Ill., Sept. 3, 2008 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) today announced the winners of its fourth-annual Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars program in the greater Rolling Meadows community, which awards two $10,000 college scholarships to local high-school students interested in pursuing a career in engineering.
Scott Bezek and Joanna Whitfield, both graduates of William Fremd High School in Palatine, each received merit-based scholarships for their exceptional academic achievements and community involvement. The pair received their scholarships at a recent awards reception hosted at Northrop Grumman's Rolling Meadows facility.
This fall, Bezek will be studying Computer Science at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge, Mass., while Whitfield will study Chemical Engineering at the University of Notre Dame in Notre Dame, Ind.
"This scholarship program enables us to jumpstart the careers of promising young adults," said John Buckley, vice president of Engineering & Manufacturing, Central Region at Northrop Grumman's Electronic Systems sector. "These students are in charge of their careers. They will plan and guide their careers, and we will be here to give them the materials they need to succeed."
To be eligible, scholarship applicants must be residents of Rolling Meadows or Palatine and graduating seniors in the spring of 2008 from a public or accredited private high school in the area. Applicants must also meet minimum SAT and GPA requirements.
