DULLES, Va., Feb. 22 /PRNewswire/ -- Orbital Sciences Corporation (NYSE: ORB) announced today that is has been selected by Motorola's Commercial Government and Industrial Solutions Sector to supply in-vehicle components and control center software solutions for the new communications system for the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority (WMATA). Motorola will install a new Comprehensive Radio Communications System for WMATA's police, bus, rail and maintenance departments. The fully integrated system is planned to be in place by the middle of 2003.
Orbital's Transportation Management Systems (TMS) division, based in Columbia, Maryland, will supply its state-of-the-art Mobile Data Terminal (SmartMDT) control unit for more than 1,700 buses and service vehicles. Orbital will also install its flexible, easy-to-use ORBCAD-NT communications and dispatch software system in WMATA's Operations Control Center. The ORBCAD-NT system is designed to improve WMATA's ability to manage and control its bus and service vehicle fleet.
