WASHINGTON, Sept. 19 /PRNewswire/ -- Background: Orbital Sciences Corporation's Taurus rocket is scheduled to be launched from Vandenberg Air Force Base (VAFB), California, on Friday, September 21, 2001, during a launch window that extends from 11:49 a.m. to 12:07 p.m. PDT (2:49 p.m. TO 3:07 p.m. EDT). The targeted launch time for the mission is 11:50 a.m. PDT (2:50 p.m. EDT).

The Taurus rocket will carry two Orbital-built satellites into orbit. OrbView-4, the world's newest commercial high-resolution (one-meter) imaging satellite, is being launched for Orbital Imaging Corporation (ORBIMAGE). OrbView-4 will also carry a hyperspectral imaging instrument for the Air Force Research Laboratory's Warfighter-1 program. The mission's secondary satellite, QuikTOMS, is an ozone mapping satellite that is being launched for NASA's Goddard Space Flight Center. Also onboard the Taurus rocket will be a commercial payload from Celestis, Inc. that will not separate from the launch vehicle.
