CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va., April 15, 2009 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Sperry Marine business unit has won a contract to supply new-generation navigation radar sets for the Brazil navy.

Sperry Marine will supply 12 new VisionMaster FT(tm) 250 X-band radars under a multi-phase program to upgrade the bridge installations across the Brazil navy fleet. Vision Marine Ltda, Sperry Marine's representative in Brazil, is providing technical support for installation, commissioning, testing and training. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

The PC-based VisionMaster FT systems utilize high-resolution flat-screen display technology and incorporate state-of-the-art automatic clutter-suppression software to identify and track weak target returns under adverse sea and weather conditions and when operating close to landmasses.

Sperry Marine is also engaged in a multi-year program to upgrade the ship inertial navigation systems on the Brazil navy's surface and submarine combat vessels. Sperry Marine's MK39 ring-laser gyrocompass systems replace the existing installed base of MK29 gyrocompasses. The MK39 provides high-accuracy 3-D position data and precise attitude, velocity and heading inputs for the ships' navigation and fire-control systems.

"We are proud to be a major supplier of navigation and steering systems for the Brazil navy and commercial ships in Brazil," said J. Nolasco DaCunha, vice president of Northrop Grumman Sperry Marine. "We have had an excellent working relationship with the Brazil navy for more than 30 years."
