LOS ANGELES, Aug. 14, 2009 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has been honored by the Department of Veterans Affairs' Vocational Rehabilitation and Employment (VR&E) Service with the 2009 VetSuccess Private Employer of the Year Award.
VR&E selected Northrop Grumman based on the company's significant hiring of veterans with disabilities. The award is the most recent recognition of Operation IMPACT (Injured Military Pursuing Assisted Career Transition), a Northrop Grumman program designed to provide assistance to severely injured military service members and identify potential job and growth opportunities across the company.
"Northrop Grumman is honored to have received such a prestigious award from the Department of Veterans' Affairs VR&E Service," said Sandra Evers-Manly, vice president of Corporate Responsibility for Northrop Grumman. "Operation IMPACT is a unique program, one we're very proud of, that's doing something very real to thank those people who have sacrificed so much for our country. These heroes deserve all we can offer, and this program helps them transition into the workplace while helping our company benefit from their talents and expertise."
Operation IMPACT began in 2005 as a Northrop Grumman initiative to provide transition support and employment to service members severely injured in the Global War on Terrorism. The program provides personalized one-on-one assistance to support service members from initial job recruiting through on-the-job follow-up. Once a candidate has been offered a position, the company provides any special accommodations needed to enable an employee to do his or her job. The program is open to spouses and parents of severely injured veterans, as well as to widows and widowers of fallen service members. To date, the company has placed Operation IMPACT employees in positions in 13 states.
Northrop Grumman Corporation is a leading global security company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in aerospace, electronics, information systems, shipbuilding and technical services to government and commercial customers worldwide.
