RESTON, Va., Aug. 24, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Essex Information Assurance (IA) team recently achieved a Capability Maturity Model Integration (CMMI(r)) Level 3 rating.

The CMMI(r) standard was developed by a coalition of industry, government and the Software Engineering Institute, a federally funded research and development center sponsored by the U.S. Department of Defense, to objectively assess the full range of an organization's software and systems engineering, program management and organizational management capabilities.

CMMI(r) maturity is rated on a scale from one through five, with five being the highest. Higher maturity levels signify lower risks to successful program execution. A maturity level 3 rating assures customers of consistent project performance and higher quality products.

"This achievement by our IA team affirms our commitment to providing quality information assurance products and services to the intelligence community," said Leonard Moodispaw, vice president of Northrop Grumman Mission Systems Sector's Essex business unit. "Northrop Grumman is committed to providing the best value solutions for our customers, in part through continual process improvement and striving for perfection."

Northrop Grumman acquired Essex Corporation in January 2007. The Essex IA team is currently engaged in information security engineering, development and operations for a wide range of customer requirements, including cross domain product solutions.

Northrop Grumman Corporation is a $30 billion global defense and technology company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government and commercial customers worldwide.

Capability Maturity Model Integration and CMMI(r) are registered in the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office by Carnegie Mellon University.
