NEWPORT NEWS, Va., May 11, 2004 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Newport News sector has received two Gold Environmental Excellence Awards from the Hampton Roads Sanitation District (HRSD). The sector was honored for its exemplary environmental compliance record and for demonstrating a commitment to environmental excellence.

These awards signify a perfect compliance record for 2003. The shipyard achieved this by performing the monitoring and reporting requirements of the permits and meeting the discharge limits mandated by HRSD, as well as meeting their technical and administrative requirements. "Protecting the environment and preventing pollution is something we take very seriously," said Jim Thornton, director of Environmental Health and Safety at Northrop Grumman Newport News. "These awards are a tribute to the hundreds of people in our shipyard whose efforts, ideas and daily work benefit both our company and the Hampton Roads community."
