REDONDO BEACH, Calif., May 15, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has received a Nunn-Perry Award from the U.S. Department of Defense for helping a small, disadvantaged-owned company improve its operations and increase its government sales under the Defense Department's mentor-protege program.

The award, presented recently in Atlanta, was the sixth received since 2001 by the company's Space Technology sector. Northrop Grumman was recognized for its work with KW Microwave Corp., a 60-employee company in Carlsbad, Calif. Under the mentoring partnership that began in 2002, KW Microwave reduced defects, lowered costs, increased gross monthly revenues and was able to add new employees as a result.

KW Microwave manufactures miniature microwave filters and supplies Northrop Grumman with custom radio frequency filter devices for critical aerospace systems. During the past year, KW Microwave has made electronic products used to deter improvised explosive devices directed at U.S. troops in combat in Iraq.

"Life-saving products such as those made by KW Microwave are the best form of return-on-investment in the Defense Department's mentor-protege program," said Alexis Livanos, president of Northrop Grumman Space Technology. He noted the Radio Systems business unit in San Diego, which recently signed a new agreement with the U.S. Air Force mentor-protege office at Brooks City-Base, Texas, will be working with KW Microwave.
