WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., Dec. 12, 2007 (PRIME NEWSWIRE) -- Employee volunteers from Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) Navigation Systems Division will deliver food and presents to 47 families during this year's holiday season. Thirty-eight of the families were nominated by Northrop Grumman employees. Nine families were nominated by El Centro de Amistad, Inc., a non-profit, social services agency in Canoga Park, Calif., which supports the needs of low-income residents of the San Fernando Valley.
Adopt-A-Family's mission is to help needy families in the San Fernando Valley. Almost 600 disadvantaged families have received gifts from volunteers in Santa suits over the seventeen years that the company's Adopt-A-Family program has been in operation.
"Adopt-A-Family offers Navigation System Division's employees an opportunity to demonstrate their commitment to the community," said Jim Myers, vice president of Northrop Grumman's Navigation System Division. "We believe that putting our values into practice creates long-term benefits for shareholders, customers, employees, suppliers and the community we serve."
Northrop Grumman's Adopt-A-Family effort involves sixteen noontime events held at the company's Woodland Hills facility throughout the year to encourage employees to buy merchandise that benefits the families or to volunteer their time, talents and money. When the holidays approach, employees volunteer to purchase gifts the children of the families have requested. Toy and food collection barrels set up inside the entrances to the plant give employees additional opportunities to help the families.
"Employee participation throughout the year is what makes Northrop Grumman's Adopt-A-Family work," said Roseanne Renert, director of Human Resources for Northrop Grumman's Navigation Systems Division and also an Adopt-A-Family volunteer. "Adopt-A-Family events bring our people together to work towards a common goal -- to help meet the needs of our community."
Northrop Grumman Corporation is a $30 billion global defense and technology company whose 120,000 employees provide innovative systems, products, and solutions in information and services, electronics, aerospace and shipbuilding to government and commercial customers worldwide.
