SUNNYVALE, Calif., March 28, 2011 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has announced that one of its employees, William L. Huffman, has been named by the National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technical Professionals Inc. (NOGLSTP) as the Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender (GLBT) Engineer of the Year for 2011.
This award is reserved for the GLBT engineer who made outstanding contributions to their field, and recognizes the recipient for sustained contributions in design, production, management or research. Huffman received his award Feb. 20 at the organization's annual reception held during the American Association for the Advancement of Science annual meeting in Washington, D.C.
Huffman is a reliability engineer in the fleet ballistic missile launcher team at Northrop Grumman's Marine Systems business unit in Sunnyvale. An expert in statistics, software driven communication, instrumentation, radar, and high power product lines, Huffman has proven skills at identifying creative solutions to solving technical challenges.

NOGLSTP is a national organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender people (and their advocates) employed or interested in scientific or high technology fields. NOGLSTP's goals include dialogue with professional organizations, disseminating information, improving our members' employment and professional environment, opposing anti-queer discrimination and stereotypes, educating the queer, scientific and general communities, and fostering inter-city contacts among our members.
Huffman is an alumnus of the University of Arizona, De Anza College and the National Radio Institute. He served three years in the U.S. Army as a medic.
Huffman is a frequent volunteer at various community efforts to raise money and awareness of AIDS issues, including Life Cycle and the San Jose Walk for AIDS. His participation in gay and lesbian organizations includes Northrop Grumman's Employee Resource Group for Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender and Allies persons, where he is currently vice chair.
