RESTON, Va., May 9, 2006 (PRIMEZONE) -- The American Council for Technology (ACT) has selected a Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC)-developed system as a finalist for its 2006 Intergovernmental Solutions Awards. The awards recognize government programs that successfully leverage technology to transform business processes.

The system, the Property Book Unit Supply Enhanced (PBUSE), is a property-accountability and unit supply-management centralized database that manages and tracks equipment for the U.S. Army. It provides real-time, accurate information about asset availability, authorization and fielding to all levels of the Army and joint community.

"PBUSE's centralized database eliminates the need for thousands of smaller databases throughout the Army," said Col. David W. Coker, Army project manager for Logistics Information Systems. "Decision makers at all levels can readily access accurate, real-time information because duplicate serial numbers and poor accountability cited by past audits have been eliminated."

PBUSE, the first Web-based logistics system used by the Army, is one of 10 federal government finalists selected from more than 60 federal, state and local government projects nominated. In selecting finalists, ACT evaluated projects based on government and industry collaboration; innovative and effective use of technology; fundamental business-process changes; significant cost or time savings; the ability for other agencies to replicate the system; and technology leadership as a model solution for other agencies and departments.

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector, prime contractor for PBUSE, developed the system at its Technology Center in Dominguez Hills, Calif. and manages it from the sector's Logistics Development Complex in Chester, Va.

Northrop Grumman is also developing other Army logistics programs including the Global Combat Support System-Army (Field/Tactical) and is the lead contractor for the Logistics Decision Support System for the Army Future Combat System.

The 2006 Intergovernmental Solutions Awards will be presented June 5 at ACT's 26th Annual Management of Change Conference in Hilton Head, S.C.
