EL SEGUNDO, Calif., June 20, 2002 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation's (NYSE:NOC) Integrated Systems sector has been awarded an $11.5 million contract from the U.S. Navy for replacement structural assemblies that will extend the service life of F/A-18 Hornet aircraft operated by the Navy and the air forces of Canada and Finland.
Under the contract, Northrop Grumman will provide seven "center barrel" sections for the Navy and five for Canada; five engine nacelle sets for the Navy and one for Finland, as well as spares. Work will be performed at Northrop Grumman Integrated Systems in El Segundo and is expected to be completed by September 2004.
This award follows two previous contracts totaling $18.7 million awarded to Northrop Grumman in 1999 and 2000 for F/A-18 structural assemblies.
The combat-proven F/A-18 Hornet is a single- and dual-seat, twin-engine multimission tactical aircraft. Hornets are in service with the Navy and Marine Corps and the air forces of Canada, Australia, Spain, Kuwait, Finland, Switzerland and Malaysia.
As principal subcontractor to The Boeing Company, Northrop Grumman produces the F/A-18 center and aft fuselage section and twin vertical tails and integrates all associated subsystems at its Integrated Systems facility in El Segundo.
