NEWPORT NEWS, Va., July 1, 2010 -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) has announced its selection of the developer to build a new Apprentice School building at its Shipbuilding sector in Newport News, Va.
Armada Hoffler has been selected as the developer for the new school. They will work in conjunction with the shipyard and the city of Newport News to finalize the school's location in the city's downtown area.

"This project has the potential to not only enhance the quality of life for our apprentices, but it could also lead to a revitalization of downtown Newport News, which benefits all our shipbuilders as well as the community. Projects that will be completed in the upcoming months include furthering development alternatives for the school as well as associated downtown development opportunities. The groundbreaking is expected to be held in the summer of 2011.
"We are pleased and excited to see this project gain momentum," said McKinley Price, mayor of Newport News. "Downtown will benefit from having an academic and residential campus, where we'll continue to educate our workforce with a focus on 21st century jobs."
The complex will include class rooms, a dormitory and a parking garage. Various amenities will be provided to enhance the students' quality of life.
