SPRINGFIELD, Mo., Dec. 18, 2001 (PRIMEZONE) -- Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) today announced that its Interconnect Technologies business unit has achieved ISO 14001 Environmental Management Standards accreditation at its Glenrothes, Scotland operations.

The ISO 14000 series is a family of environmental management standards developed by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). ISO 14001, Environmental Management Systems, establishes a common worldwide approach to protect the Earth's environment while spurring international trade and commerce.

"Our objective is to ensure that we incorporate sustainable best business practices that add value to our shareholders, customers, employees and the communities in which we live," said Hugh Mackenzie, Interconnect Technologies' Glenrothes general manager. "Our customers are the world's electronics leaders with many international locations, and we expect that they will prefer to do business with suppliers that have achieved this accreditation. Interconnect Technologies is proving our commitment to demonstrable environmental management that allows us to improve costs and reduce our consumption of materials, energy and the waste stream."

This facility, with 150 employees, provides complete customized electro-mechanical packaging solutions to the telecommunications, data networking and high-end computing markets.

Interconnect Technologies, a business unit of Northrop Grumman Component Technologies, becomes the first business within the sector to achieve ISO 14001 accreditation.

The accreditation continues a series of achievements for the Glenrothes facility. In October, Interconnect Technologies placed second among the best electronics and electrical factories in the United Kingdom's Best Factory Award competition. The business also received the Judges' Special Award for excellence in manufacturing competence. The prestigious competition, jointly run by the Cranfield School of Management and Management Today magazine, promotes and rewards manufacturing excellence in the United Kingdom.

"We entered the Best Factory competition as it was a good benchmarking exercise, providing an independent yardstick against which we could measure our performance compared to other UK companies," Mr. Mackenzie said.

Interconnect Technologies actively participates in the Inside United Kingdom Enterprises (IUKE) as a host. The IUKE is a business excellence program, established by the UK's Department of Trade & Industry, which aims to increase the productivity and profitability of UK companies.
