WOODLAND HILLS, Calif., Feb. 16, 2011 -- Applications are now being accepted for the fourth annual Northrop Grumman Corporation (NYSE:NOC) Engineering Scholars competition, which will provide a total of $20,000 in college scholarships across two local counties this year to promising high school seniors interested in studying engineering.
"Northrop Grumman is thrilled to support local students who will be pursuing engineering degrees in college," said Liz Iversen, vice president and general manager of Northrop Grumman's Navigation Systems Division. "They represent the future not only for our business, but for innovation in America."
Individual scholarships of $10,000 payable in $2,500 installments over four years will be awarded by Northrop Grumman this spring to two qualified graduating high school seniors in communities neighboring the company's Navigation Systems Division facility in Woodland Hills, specifically, those students attending an accredited high school in Los Angeles County or Ventura County. Candidates must plan to attend an accredited college or university school of engineering as a full-time student in an approved engineering program. The funds may be used for tuition, books, lodging and meals.
A committee of Northrop Grumman employees will select the Engineering Scholars winners. Each applicant must be a graduating senior in the spring of 2011 from a public or accredited private high school in the sponsoring location. Among other requirements, applicants for the scholarship program must have achieved minimum SAT or ACT and GPA scores. Recipients of any other Northrop Grumman-sponsored scholarships are not eligible. The application deadline is March 31, 2011.
Informational brochures describing the scholarship program have been sent to local high schools. To apply for the Northrop Grumman Engineering Scholars program, students must complete the online application available at: http://www.es.northropgrumman.com/engscholars/
